Our first stop today was in Baja, for a mid morning Snack. This is a rather splendid institution named by Our nice, Rosa. We like it. The town itself must have been pretty amazing in it's heyday, with lots of grand buildings surrounding the town square. We had tea and scone like things in a cafe by the square. It was raining again today, and we sneeked lunch into a dry spell between the heavy summer showers.
At a river crossing, while waiting for a ferry we met a fellow cyclist, a Basque from just over the border from us in France. We swapped notes, and he too had struggled with the sandy levee path, and was just about done in. We were pleased that we had taken a road detour for the last bit of the river side path which it seems was much faster and a more plesant experience than continuing on by the river side.
The rain eased off as we headed toward Croatia, and there seemed to be a camping site marked on the map, again down by the river, worth an investigate. Passing through ruins of small factories and deserted houses, we weren't too hopeful of finding a good spot, but by a lovely sandy beach, there was indeed somwhere to camp. The usual of pasta and sauce for tea, washed down with insect repellant and an acompanyment of mosquitos.
