Trains, kindness and cake

I found Yannick this morning sleeping half under my bed in our slightly too small cabin. We booked a four man as we were too late to get one of the few five berth ones. Yannick drew the short straw and slept on his camping mat. This inconvenience seems not to have disturbed his slumbers.

Our bikes were on the same floor as the big lorries and tall campers. We were parked up with a group of motor bikes. They were from the UK and had been in Norway. A friendly bunch.

We were quickly off the boat and rode to the rail station. Plenty of time and enough space on the train.

The next train at Aarhus was an intercity - here we had booked bike spaces. Our journey was supposed to involve four different trains, but when the conductor heard this he arranged that we could stay on the train we were on as it was going where we wanted - but for some reason the App hadn’t shown this as a viable travel option. This was really above and beyond and saved us a lot of hassle as getting the loaded bikes up the steps onto the trains here is not quick and easy with five bikes.

We stopped in Kolding and thought we would try to all get the next train to Flensburg together. We only had two bike places reserved on it but thought we could at least try. It was so busy though that Sonja and Yannick got that one and the rest of us got one two hours later after exploring the town a bit and visiting a cafe.

Onward to Flensburg - kebab for supper and a walk through the pretty Main Street before going back to the hostel for a well earned sleep!
